Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player secured his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has endured a challenging period, winning just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in particular - led to him falling of the top ten and eventually parting ways with former trainer Cervara.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually improved in the past month - culminating in a closely contested three-set triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden title since the Rome competition and initial on a hard court after March of that year.

Victory also signifies the Russian has secured 21 titles at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to win a championship is particularly special," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his past six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's defensive approach and recurring emotional displays on court had caused commentators to wonder if his skill to compete at the highest level was over.

However the player has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and perform aggressively, supported by an improved serve.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, winning four of the last five games to go ahead.

The competitors traded breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial ATP Tour title, gained dominance to create a decider.

The opponent saved 4 initial break points in a tight third set before the champion won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner earned the win with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
