2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently developing the upcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as Project Ethos.
The new appointee steps into the leadership position at the development studio following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming initial reveal last fall.
Recently, 2K president a key figure informed team members about this organizational change through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had shown the requirement for a clearer vision.
The president stated that the team is now refining the project with a refreshed focus, aiming to better meet player expectations.
The news echoes a comparable move taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to assist with the beloved franchise development group.

Team—
I know you all just finished your town hall - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the positive developments. Previously I sent you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and innovative developers we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to endure.”
Through your commitment and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The player input from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was revealing. It validated the appeal of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the necessity for a more distinct identity.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the input to heart and revamped Project ETHOS with a revitalized vision - one that’s ready to achieve its ambition to our audience.
The trust in this project increases every day. To advance the remarkable progress you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome the new hire as the incoming Director of 31st Union. After a period of talks, Ben starts with us on next week.
His management and background in the PVP shooter genre is vast, having spent the last 15 years creating and leading some of the most recognizable titles in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.
Please join me in receiving him next week. We are all looking forward to persist observing the progress of Project ETHOS in the months to come.
David
The appointee presently holds the position of executive producer and head of production at the renowned studio for their flagship title. He earlier worked at Treyarch and Activision in diverse production roles on the iconic franchise games, and, earlier in his career, had periods at other industry leaders.
Project Ethos was announced in October 2024 together with a public demo. Initially, the developers described the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an innovative advancement on the category."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the description explains. "Challenge the opponents with unique powers, risks, and challenges that shift every round. Do you leave securely with your collected items? Or aim high, put it on the line, and pray your group can achieve the highest spot? The decision is up to you."
The game has not yet received an announced debut schedule or platforms, but fans can anticipate additional details as creation continues.
